How to Use a USB Flash Drive on a PS3

The Playstation 3 (PS3) supports the use of external storage devices such as USB Flash drives. Users can store PS3 data (e.g., game saves and user-created content) to the Flash drive, or play media directly from the drive . Most USB Flash drives are supported by the PS3 (as long as the drive doesn't require its own proprietary software to load).

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the PS3 on. Connect the USB Flash drive to either of the USB ports on the front of the PS3.

    • 2

Use the PS3 controller to select the appropriate menu from the navigation bar. For example, if you want to play or copy a song, select the "Music" menu.

    • 3

Highlight "Display All" and press the "X" button on the PS3 controller. A list of all the files relating to your chosen media type will be displayed.

    • 4

Select the file that you want to play or copy. If you want to play the file, press the "X" button. The file will begin playing in the PS3's media player. If you want to copy the file, press the "Triangle" button. The file will be copied to the PS3's hard drive.
