How to Convert a Movie to PS3

The Playstation 3 has your movie-watching options covered. It can play movies from DVDs, Blu-rays and even external hard drives and USB sticks. Movie files not on DVD or Blu-ray come in a lot of different encoding formats, though, and the PS3 isn't programmed to read all of them. Convert your movie files to a PS3-compatible format with the right video conversion software.

Instructions

  1. Software Installation

    • 1

Download and install a video conversion program that creates video files the PS3 reads. Xvid4PSP is easy to use, while txMuxeR gives users more advanced options.

    • 2

Download and install a codec pack to ensure your computer reads the movie file properly. Resources 3 and 4 link two comprehensive codec packs, K-lite and CCCP.

    • 3

Run the video conversion program you chose. A shortcut to the program should be on your desktop. Double-click it.

    Using Xvid4PSP

    • 4

Click the "Open" button near the top of the program window in Vxid4PSP. Navigate to the movie you want to convert, select it and click the "Open" button.

    • 5

Click the "Format" drop down menu and select "AVI."

    • 6

Click the "Encode" button to begin converting the movie.

    Using tsMuxeR

    • 7

Click the tab labeled "Input" at the top right hand corner of the program window in tsMuxeR. Click the "Add" button on the right side of the window, navigate to the video file you want to convert, select it and click "Open."

    • 8

Click the "MT2S muxing" option in the "Output" box near the bottom of the window.

    • 9

Look under the "General track options" box for the "Change level" option. If the number in the text field to the right is higher than 4.1, click in the field and replace the number with 4.1

    • 10

Click the "Start muxing" button to begin converting the movie.
