How to Connect a PS3 DVD Remote to a PC

The Playstation 3 remote control has all the features of a normal DVD player remote, in addition to buttons specifically included to control the PS3. These extra buttons don't mean you can't use it with other devices, though. The PS3 DVD remote connects to your PC if it has a Bluetooth receiver installed. Use the PS3 remote to control media playback and other functions on your computer from anywhere in the room without a keyboard and mouse.

Things You'll Need

Computer with Bluetooth receiver
PS3 remote control

Instructions

  Install the PS3 Remote Application from the link in "Resources." As of July 2010, there is no OS X version of this program available.

  Open "Control Panel" under the "Start" menu on your computer.

  Open "Bluetooth Devices" from the "Control Panel" window.

  Hold the "Start" and "Enter" buttons on the PS3 DVD remote until its indicator lights start to flash. This means the remote is in discovery mode.

  Click the box next to "My device is set up and ready to be found" in the Bluetooth control panel. Click "Next."

  Select "BD Remote Control" from the list of devices your computer discovered, then click the "Next" button.

  Select "Don't use passkey" from the next window, then click "Next" again. Your PS3 DVD remote is now connected to your computer.
