How to Restore a PS3 from the Backup

When you reformat your Playstation 3, you completely wipe all of the data from it. To save your personal data, settings and saved game files, you must create a backup file on a USB drive. Now that you've created the backup file and reformatted your PS3 hard drive. To get all of your saved files back, you must restore the backup file you created. Once you do this, your PS3 will look just like it did before the reformatting.

  • USB storage device containing PS3 backup

Instructions

      Insert the storage device into an open USB port on your PS3.

      Restart your PS3 after you complete reformatting your hard drive.

      Select "Settings," "System Settings," and then "Backup Utility."

      Click "Restore."

      Click "Yes" when you are asked if you want to restore.

      Choose your backup device.

    • 7

      Select the backup file from the device.

    • 8

      Click "Yes" when you are asked again if you want to restore and wait for the backup to restore on the system.
