How to Open the PS3 Media Card Reader

PlayStation 3 models released before August 2007 came equipped with media card readers for three card formats: CompactFlash, SD Memory Card and Memory Stick Duo. Because of the way the front face of the PS3 is designed, the locations of these media card readers aren't always apparent. Here's how to open your PS3's media card readers.

  Lift the rounded plastic flap to the left of the disc loading tray. It is not clipped or fastened shut. There are three slots on the flat face behind the flap. See Resource 1 for an image of a PS3 with the flip-up cover lifted.

  Gently press inward any media card already in one of the slots until it clicks. Remove your finger; the media card will come out of the slot far enough to be gripped.

  Pull the media card out of the slot. Your PS3 media card reader is now open.
