How to Play Media Files From My Portable Hard Drive on a PS3

The Playstation 3 allows you to play certain media files directly from your USB Flash drive. These files can also be copied from the USB drive onto the PS3. For video, the PS3 supports AVI, MP4 and DIVX video formats. For audio, the PS3 supports MP3, MP4, WAV and WMA formats. For photos, the PS3 supports JPEG, GIF, TIFF and BNP formats. The PS3 also allows you to view photos and listen to music simultaneously.

      Insert the USB Flash drive into any available USB port on the PS3. If you&'re not there already, press the "PS" button on the controller to return to the PS3 menu (XMB bar).

      Select the category of media you want to play. For example, if you want to look at a movie on the portable drive, select the "Video" category from the XMB bar.

      Select "Display All" to bring up a list of all available media on the USB drive. Select the thumbnail of the file you want to play.
