How to Find Your WEP Key for a Wireless PS3

Setting up a new PS3 Internet connection through your WEP-protected wireless router can be a bit of a pain, especially if you&'re not sure what your WEP passcode is. A WEP passcode is not your standard "letters and numbers" password; instead, a WEP passcode is a 10, 26 or 38 character hexadecimal code that is usually not that easy to memorize. Fortunately, there is a trick that will allow you to find out your router&'s WEP passcode through your computer&'s web browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button and select "Run," or press the "Windows" and "R" keys together to bring up the Run dialog box. Type in "Command" and press "Enter" to bring up the command prompt window.

    • 2

Type "IPconfig"--minus the quote marks--into the command prompt window and then hit "Enter." Copy down the numbers that appear on the same line as "IP Address" in the window.

    • 3

Launch your preferred web browser and type the IP address you copied down in the preceding step into the address bar. Hit "Enter," and you will find yourself in your wireless router&'s setup screen. You may need to enter your router&'s password before you can enter the router setup.

Click the "Wireless Security" link--you may need to go into a new screen labeled "Wireless" or something similar. This will open a page containing your router&'s WEP passcode.

    • 5

Enter the WEP passcode exactly as it appears on your computer into your PS3&'s Wireless Network Setup screen when it asks you for it.
