How to Connect PC Speakers to a PS3

PC speakers have progressed far beyond the unpowered tinny-sounding speakers of yesteryear, and many of them are good enough to qualify as a home sound system. Because of this, many PC owners prefer to hook up their PS3&'s audio to their computer speakers rather than plugging the PS3 audio into the TV. The difficulty arises because the PS3 does not have the correct inputs for connecting PC speakers. Fortunately, it is not that difficult to work around that problem and get your PS3 hooked up to your PC speakers.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the PS3 audio/video cable into the appropriate port on the back of the PS3, providing it is not already plugged in.

    • 2

Plug the red and white cables into the corresponding plugs -- red to red, white to white -- on the Y-adapter.

    • 3

Plug the PC speakers&' audio jack into the other end of the Y-adapter.

    • 4

Turn on your PS3 and your PC speakers.

    • 5

Go to the "Settings" menu on the PS3&'s home screen.

    • 6

Select the "Sound settings" option and hit the "X" button.

    • 7

Select the "AV Multi" option in the "Sound settings" screen. This will cause the audio to be piped out to the red and white cords, which will send the audio through your PC speakers as long as they are connected to the Y-adapter.
