How to Import Audio to a PS3 From a USB

In addition to the PlayStation 3&'s functionality as a gaming device and Blu-ray video player, the console supports numerous audio playback options. As with previous models of the PlayStation, the PS3 will play audio CDs complete with onscreen visualization. The PlayStation 3 introduced the ability to copy and play music from an external storage device such as a USB drive. Through a quick and simple process, audio files on a USB flash drive can be imported onto a PS3 console for playback from the system&'s memory.

Note that the PlayStation 3 will only support audio in ATRAC, MP3, MP4, WAVE and WMA file formats.

Instructions

      Insert the USB drive into your computer.

      Open the USB drive using the method provided with your operating system. Some computers will open the drive automatically.

      Create a new folder on the USB drive titled "MUSIC." Be sure to use all capital letters or the PlayStation 3 will not recognize the files you wish to import.

      Open the folder you just created. Click and drag the audio files you wish to import to the PS3 into the USB drive&'s folder.

      Close the USB drive window and safely remove the USB drive from your computer.

      Insert the USB drive into the port on the PS3. The device will automatically be recognized by the console.

      Highlight "USB Device" from the "Music" section of the PS3 menu and press "X."

      Highlight the files you wish to import from the USB drive and press the "Triangle" button. Highlight "Copy" from the options listed and press the "X" button. The PlayStation 3 will import the files and make them available for playback from the "Music" section of the main menu. When you are finished importing, you may remove the USB drive from the PS3.
