How to Download Music Onto Your PS3 Using a Laptop

You can use your PlayStation 3 to play music you&'ve downloaded to your laptop, but you have to copy it from your laptop to your PS3&'s internal hard drive first. This process comes in handy if your PS3 is not connected to the Internet.

      Download the music to your laptop from an online music store, like iTunes. If you are using iTunes, click the "iTunes Store" tab in the menu on the left of the program window, click on a CD or track you want to download, then click the "Buy Album" or "Buy Song" button.

      Insert the USB memory stick into your laptop. Select the "Open folder to view files" option from the pop up window.

      Double-click "My Computer" on the desktop and navigate to the where your iTunes music is stored. The default folder in Windows Vista and Windows 7 is "C:\Users\(your Windows user name)\Music\iTunes." You can get there by double-clicking "Libraries" from the "My Computer" window, then "Music," then "iTunes" under the "My Music" category. The song or album you downloaded will be inside the folder named after the musician who recorded it.

      Drag the music file or folder to the USB memory stick window to copy it to the memory stick. Remove the memory stick when the copies finish.

      Insert the memory stick into your PS3. The PS3&'s USB slots are on the left side of its front face.

      Go to the "Music" column of the PS3&'s main menu and highlight "USB Device." Press "Triangle" and select "Display All" from the menu that pops up. Your PS3 then lists all the files on the memory stick.

      Highlight the music folder or file you want to copy to your PS3, press the "Triangle" button and select "Copy" from the menu that pops up. This copies the music files to your PlayStation 3.
