How to Talk on Bluetooth on PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) home entertainment console can connect with PS3 controllers using Bluetooth technology. But you can use the PS3&'s Bluetooth capability for a lot more than that. Bluetooth headsets and other devices can connect to your PS3, meaning you can talk wirelessly with any friend on your PlayStation account.

Instructions

      Go to the "Accessory Settings" panel under the "Settings" column of the PS3 main menu. Open "Manage Bluetooth Devices" from the menu. The "Settings" column is the second from the left.

      Put your Bluetooth headset into "pairing" mode. For most models, hold the headset&'s "Talk" button until its lights flash.

      Press "X" to make the PlayStation scan for nearby Bluetooth devices when you see a message saying: "To register (pair), you will need to prepare the Bluetooth® device. For information on preparing the device, refer to the instructions supplied with the Bluetooth® device."

      Enter the Bluetooth headset passkey, if the PS3 asks for one. Press "X" when the text field is highlighted and use the on-screen keypad that pops up to enter the number. Select "Enter" when you finish entering the passkey, then select "OK" beneath the text field. If you entered the correct key, the PS3 will display the message "Register Completed." Press the "Circle" button to return to the PlayStation menu.

      Many devices have a default passkey of "0000," though different manufacturers may set different keys. Your device&'s passkey is listed in the owner&'s manual.

      Under the PS3&'s "Settings" menu, open the "Audio Device Settings" panel from the "Accessory Settings" option .

      Select "Input Device" and choose your Bluetooth headset from the list that pops up. Generally, your headset will be the only entry in this list. This automatically sets the PlayStation to channel the voice of the person you&'ll chat with through the headset. Your headset must be turned on to complete this step.

      Navigate to the "Friends" column at the far right of the PS3 main menu and select "Start New Chat." Select "Invite a Friend" from the following menu and choose a friend from the list. This brings up the chat invitation screen.

      Enter a message in the invitation screen, if you wish, using the on-screen keyboard that pops up when you select a text field. Press "Send" when the message is finished. If your friend accepts the invitation to chat, the voice chat automatically begins.
