File Sharing
Turn on the PS3 and the computer.
Turn on file sharing for the files you wish to transfer. For a Windows device, right-click on the file or folder and click “Share With” or “Sharing and Security”, depending on your version of the operating system. Allow sharing with the PS3, which may be labeled as an “Unkown device". For OSX based machines, open the Apple menu and choose “System Preferences". From this window, click “View” and then “Sharing” to open the sharing settings. Click the “File Sharing” button to turn file sharing on and choose which folders you want shared, and with which devices/users.
From the PS3 menu, select the laptop&'s icon to open the shared files. The PlayStation will stream videos, music and photos from the computer for use on the game console.
Internet Sharing
Ensure both devices are switched on, and that the computer has a working wireless Internet connection.
Share the laptop&'s connection. On a Windows computer, open the “Network Connections” page from the Network and Sharing Center. Right-click your wireless network connection and click “Properties". From the Sharing tab of the network properties, check the box marked “Allow other users to connect through this computer&'s Internet connection". On an OSX computer, open the System Preferences menu. Select “Sharing” and then “Internet Sharing.” Set the shared connection to use Ethernet.
Set the PS3&'s network options to match that of the laptop&'s. If your laptop does not gather its IP address and other connection information automatically, you may have to input the information in the PlayStation&'s Network Settings menu.
