How to Find Files on the SD Card When Using PS3

The PlayStation 3, which was introduced in 2006, is not just a gaming console: It lets you play Blu-ray movies and standard DVDs, store music, photos and videos on its hard drive, and display items from a standard SD card using its SD card slot. If you have digital media files on an SD card, like videos or music, and want to output them to your TV using the PS3, you can access those files with your console fairly easily. However, only the original 20 gigabyte and 60 gigabyte PlayStation 3 models have SD card slots; later models will require you to use an external flash memory card reader with a USB connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the SD card to the PlayStation 3 by inserting it into either the console&'s flash memory card slot if it is a 20 gigabyte or 60 gigabyte console or an external card reader, which connects to the console via one of its various USB ports.

    • 2

Turn on your PlayStation 3 with the controller connected, but without a disc in the drive, so that the console&'s main menu pops up and you can go to the XMB menu, where you access your media.

    • 3

Scroll down to either the photo, video or music section of the XMB, depending on what&'s on your SD card, and then select your SD card from the list of memory sources that pops up.

    • 4

Press the green "Triangle" button to display all the files on the SD card. Scroll to a particular file and select it to display it using the "X" button.
