How to Connect a PS3 to the Internet via Ethernet Cables

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) comes equipped with Internet capability so that you can play games online and automatically download updates. The PS3 can connect to the Internet wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable that is included with purchase. If you have an available broadband connection and a modem/router, you can get your PS3 connected in no time.

      Unplug your modem/router at the socket, and remove any other connecting Ethernet or USB cables. Wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in. Don&'t reconnect any other USB or Ethernet cables.

      Connect the Ethernet cable to your PS3, and plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the modem/router.

      Turn on your PS3, and it should connect to the Internet automatically. If it doesn&'t, you need to prompt your PS3 to detect the connection. Open the "Settings" menu, then push the “X” button. Choose “Internet Connection Settings” and then push the "X" button again. Select “Yes” when the PS3 warns you that your connection will be terminated. Choose “Wired Connection” and push the “X” button. Select "Easy” and your PS3 will automatically detect the best settings for your Internet connection. Select "Save."

      Select “Test Connection” to confirm that your PS3 is connected to the Internet.
