To play Sony PlayStation 3 video games online, you must have a Sony PS3 system. Even if you have a computer, you cannot play the games online as a computer is unable to read and detect a PS3 disc. With any model of PS3 and an Internet connection, the video game platform is capable of connecting you to the Internet and playing your video game online with your friends.

  Power on the Sony PlayStation 3 and insert the PS3 game into the open drive slot. Momentarily, the game loads onto the screen. When playing online games with your PS3, it is only possible to play the game associated with your game disc.

  Press "Start" on the PS3 controller then choose "Multiplayer." Multiplayer is a feature available for online play.

  Sign into your PS3 account when asked. If you do not have an account, choose "Sign Up." From here type in a desired user name and password, your email address and then click "OK."

  Click "Sign In," and the PS3 connects you to the game&'s online server. Choose the kind of game you wish to join, and momentarily, you enter the online game using your Sony PlayStation 3. Most video games with online capabilities have different game-play options (for example, some first-person shooter video games allow you to join a free-for-all game or a capture the flag game where you are put on a team of other online players).
