How Can I Make a 160GB PS3 Play PS2 Games?

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a next generation home video game console that is backwards compatible with many PS2 and PS1 video games. Before you begin playing your classic PlayStation games on your PS3, you need to first install the PS2 system data. This is available on the PSN Store for free. This works on your PS3 even if you have upgraded the hard drive to 160GB or larger.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the PSN Store icon on the PS3 main menu to open the PSN Store application.

    • 2

Select "Add-ons" and "Disk Based Add-ons" to bring up the PS3 system add-ons. Browse through the list until you see the "PS2 System Data." Select it.

    • 3

Select "Add to Cart" and "Checkout" to begin downloading the PS2 system data for the PS3. This is a free add-on, so you do not need to enter in any purchasing information.

    • 4

Go back into the PS3 main menu and insert your PS2 disk into the PS3 optical drive. Go to the "Game" section of the PS3 and select the "PlayStation 2 Format Disk" to begin playing.
