How to Play PS2 Memory on a PS3

Some PlayStation 2 games will play on a PlayStation 3. However, you cannot use your old PlayStation 2 memory card to save your games on a PlayStation 3. Instead, PlayStation 3 requires that you create an "internal memory card" on the game system's internal hard drive. When you save your PlayStation 2 game, you will save it to the system's memory instead of saving it on a memory card. Before you can use the "internal memory card," you must set it up on the PlayStation 3's hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PlayStation 3 and select "Game" from the main menu. This will have an icon that looks like a PlayStation controller.

    • 2

Select "Create New Internal Memory Card" from the menu. This will look like a memory card with a plus sign beside it.

    • 3

Follow the instructions to complete the setup of the internal memory card. You will be able to name your card and give it an icon to help tell it apart from other internal memory cards.

    • 4

Create additional internal memory cards as needed.

    • 5

Select the "Game" icon from the main Plays PlayStation tation 3 menu once you have finished creating your internal memory card.

    • 6

Choose "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)" from the menu that appears below.

    • 7

Select the internal memory card that you would like to use and press the triangle button on your controller.

    • 8

Choose "Assign Slot" from the menu. This is similar to inserting a memory card into one of the physical memory card slots on a gaming system.

    • 9

Launch your PlayStation 2 game in the PlayStation 3 and use the internal memory card to save and load data, the same way you would save and load data from a regular PlayStation 2 memory card.
