How to reset a PS3

You can reset the Sony PlayStation 3 to troubleshoot the gaming system or restart after a hard drive freeze. Resetting the PS3 will restore the PS3's settings to to the default factory settings. Consider backing up any data or custom settings before doing a system reset for the PS3 as they might be erased.

Instructions

      Turn off the PS3 by flipping the power switch on the back of the system.

      Turn the power switch back to the "on" position.

      Hold the power button while the PS3 is powering up until you hear three beeps. These signal that the PS3 has received the manual system reset command.

      Prompt through the initial setup menu to continue resetting the PS3.

      Select "Format" from the system menu to format and finish a complete system reset for the PS3.
