How to Play Exported PS2 Games on PS3

Video game enthusiasts might want to play PS2 games that are not readily available in the United States. In this case, the gamer would have to purchase the game from overseas. Foreign PS2 games are usually played on modified PS2 game systems but can also be played on a PS3. A few simple steps can determine if your PS3 system can play foreign PS2 games.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the PS3 system is backward compatible. Look for the letters CECHA, CECHB, CECHC or CHECE on the back the console. PS3 models with these serial letters can play all PS2 games.

    • 2

Check for the number of USB ports on your PS3 system. Consoles with just two USB ports will not play any PS2 games, as these systems are not backward compatible. Four USB ports on your PS3 system signifies that it can in fact play all PS2 games. This is just an alternate method of determination.

    • 3

      Power on your PS3 system.

    • 4

Insert the PS2 game disc into your PS3 game system and play.

    • 5

Restart the PS3 game system if the PS2 game begins to glitch.
