How to Set Up a PS3 Ethernet DSL Connection

If you want to make the most of your PlayStation 3 home entertainment system, you need to set up your console so it can connect to your home's Internet connection. If you have DSL, connecting your PS3 through your router or modem using an Ethernet cable is a piece of cake. The process itself doesn't take more than five to ten minutes to complete, and you'll be browsing the PlayStation network in no time flat.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your PlayStation 3 to your DSL modem or router by plugging an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your PS3 console. Plug the other end of the cable into an open port on your DSL modem or router.

    • 2

Power on your PlayStation 3 console by pressing the center button on a synced controller. Make sure there isn't a game disc or movie in the disc slot so the console goes directly to the "Home" menu.

    • 3

Highlight "Settings" on the "Home" menu and press the "Down" key on the controller until you reach "Network Settings." Press "X" to enter the "Network Settings" menu.

    • 4

Check that the "Internet Connection" option reads "Enabled." If not, change it by highlighting the option, pressing "X" and switching it over to "Enabled."

    • 5

Go down one more option so "Internet Connection Settings" is highlighted and press "X."

    • 6

      Choose "Yes" to continue.

    • 7

Select "Easy" for your "Setting Method."

    • 8

Wait for your PS3 to check your settings. Press "X" to save the settings when they're displayed on the screen.

    • 9

Choose "Test Connection" by pressing "X" on the controller. Your PS3 will let you know if the operation was successful.
