Things You'll Need
Instructions
Connect your PS3 to your television. The PS3 comes equipped with audio-video cables for your TV. However, if you want to use the HDMI output of the PS3 for an HDMI-compatible TV, you will need to purchase this cable separately.
Prepare the PS3 for Internet connection. You can connect the PS3 to the Internet in one of two ways, either by using an Ethernet cable or by positioning your broadband wireless router close enough to the PS3 so that it picks up the signal.
Turn on your PS3 by pressing the "Power" button on the front of the console.
Detect the Internet on your PS3. The first time you use the PS3 to connect to the Internet, you will need to set up the Internet access. Highlight the "Settings" icon (it looks like a toolbox), then use the controller to scroll down to "Network Settings" and click the "X" button. Then configure the Internet based on what type of connection you want to use (wireless or broadband).
Create a PlayStation Online account. Use the controller to highlight the "PlayStation Network" icon, then scroll down to the "Account Management" icon and click the "X" button. Then click "create new account" and enter a username and password.
Insert a PS2 game and load it. In the PS3 main menu, highlight the "game" icon, then use the controller to move the highlight down to the icon of the game you have inserted. Then click the "X" button on your controller to load the game.
Connect the game to the Internet. Once the game has loaded, click through to the options screen if it does not appear automatically (you can click through by pressing the "X" button). Use the joystick to highlight "Play Online" and then click the "X" button.
Sign into the PlayStation network. After the PS3 connects the game to the Internet, you will be able to play your game online.
