Check the wireless router to make sure it has been enabled to broadcast your current SSID. Make sure you can easily identify the SSID (name of the Internet connection). When the console locates available internet connections, you'll want to be able to select the correct one.
Check your broadband connection and find out if there is a WPA or WEP security key enabled. If you do not know the security key for the internet connection, it can be obtained by contacting your service provider.
Turn on the PS3 and find the Settings option on the main menu. Choose Network Settings and Internet Connection. Select the enable option. Once enabled, locate Internet Connection Settings and press the X button. Select Yes when asked if you wish to continue.
Select the Easy option under Setting Method. When prompted to choose a connection method, select Wireless.
Select Scan when the next window pops up. When the PS3 is done scanning, it will provide a list of available Internet connections in the area. From this list of connections, find your SSID and press the X button. Continue by pressing the Right button.
Select the security key that is used by your internet connection. If there is no security key enabled, select None and continue. If a key is enabled, enter the case sensitive code. At this point, the menu will display a summary of the connection details. If satisfied with the set up, save and continue by pressing the X button.
Select the Test Connection option. After the console runs its series of connectivity tests, you will receive a success or failure message. If the message says the connection was successful, the PS3 is set up for online play.
