Things You'll Need
Instructions
Connect the Ethernet cable to your high-speed modem or wired router. A router is necessary if you want to share the network connection between the PS3 and other devices simultaneously; otherwise, the Ethernet cable must be swapped at the modem to correspond with whatever device needs Internet access.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the PlayStation 3. Push the cable in until you hear it click into place.
Turn on the PS3 without a disc inserted, as you want to stay on the XMB menu, which is the main menu displayed after turning on the system.
Open the settings menu. Use the left and right arrows on your controller until "Settings" is highlighted. Next, use the up and down arrows to select "Network Settings," which is the last option, located at the bottom of the "Settings" menu. Press "X" to enter the "Network Settings" menu.
Click "Yes" to acknowledge that any current Internet connection must be disconnected before proceeding with Ethernet Internet setup. The PS3 will automatically disconnect the active connection, if one is made via the wireless adapter.
Select the "Easy" option and press "X" when asked to select a configuration type.
Provide other connection information. You may be asked for additional information regarding proxy servers or IP addresses, depending on your network settings. Make sure you have this information available; it can be provided by your ISP or the manufacturer of your router or other network equipment.
When information is entered and the setup wizard completes, save your connection settings. Next, select "Test Connection." The PS3 will attempt to access the Internet via its built-in Ethernet card. The results of the test will appear on the screen, so you can determine if the connection succeeded.
Review and confirm the network settings, and press "X" to save and connect to the Ethernet network connection.
