How to Change a Playstation Online User Name

Making a PlayStation Online account gives you the opportunity to manage your game activity for your PS3 video game console. In addition, you can participate in the PlayStation forums with your online account and compare your game statistics to other PlayStation 3 players. If you decide to change your PlayStation Online user name for any reason, you can possibly have a new sign-in name in a matter of minutes.

  Create a new email address. Some Internet Providers give you the option of making multiple addresses under your account. Otherwise, go to a website where you can create a new email address free of charge, such as Hotmail or AOL (see "Resources" section for link).

  Open your Internet browser. Go to the PlayStation website (see "Resources"). Locate the "Sign In" link on the right side of the page and click it. Type your original email address and password into the boxes provided. Press the light gray "Sign In" button.

  Scroll your mouse over the area of the screen that reads "Hi, Your Name." Navigate down the menu until you reach "Account Settings." Select the option. In the middle of the page, you will see a button for managing your account settings. Press the button. A warning pops up to notify you that you are going to a different website. Click the red "Continue" button.

  Open the "Change Sign-In ID" link. Type your new email address in the box labeled "Sign-In ID." Hit the "Tab" key on your keyboard then press the "Enter" button. You will be notified if your user name change was successful.

  Visit your email account. Sign in to the new account that you used for updating your PlayStation Online user name. View the email confirmation regarding your account change, which is found in your Inbox.
