How to Play PS2 Games on My 40G PS3

One of the advantages of Sony's PlayStation systems over the years is their backwards compatibility. With the exception of the PlayStation, which was the first, each successive PlayStation has been able to play games from the previous console. The PlayStation 2 could play PlayStation games and the PlayStation 3 can play both PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, in addition to PlayStation 3 games.

Instructions

      Run a Internet connection test to make sure the PlayStation 3 is connected to the Internet. A connection test can be performed by scrolling down to the "Internet Connectivity" icon from the first tab on the PlayStation 3 home screen. Press "X" and allow the test to run.

      Open the PlayStation "Network Store" after confirming the Internet connection. Do so by scrolling right through the icons on the PS3 home screen until reaching the "Games" tab. Scroll down to the "PSN Store" icon. Press "X."

      Select "Games." A library of available titles for purchase and download will be available. Select the desired game, confirm payment, download and play.
