Wired Connection
Set up the PlayStation 3 system according to manufacturer's instructions, then turn it on. Check the Internet cable connections from the DSL or cable modem to the router and make sure it is on before configuring.
Locate the Ethernet port on the PS3 and on the router. Connect the ethernet cable from the PS3 port to the router port.
From the PlayStation menu screen, locate "Settings," then "Network Settings". Press the "X" button on the controller to select "Network Settings".
Go to "Internet Connection" and press "X" on the controller to select. This action will show the word "Enabled" to the right of "Internet Connection". Then go to "Internet Connection Settings" on the same menu and press "X". The screen will read "If you perform Internet connection settings, the system will be disconnected. Do you want to continue?" Select "Yes" and press "X" to continue. Select "Easy" when the screen prompts you to select a setting.
Wait while your PS3 automatically checks your network setup and selects the settings. When the settings list appears, pressing "X" to save these settings. Proceed by pressing "X" to test the Internet connection.
After the connection test is completed, if you see "succeeded" next to all the things on the list, your wired Internet connection has been configured. You are ready to go online.
Wireless Connection
Set up the PlayStation 3 system according to manufacturer's instructions and turn it on. Check the Internet cable connections from the DSL or cable modem to the wireless router and make sure it is on before configuring. You do not need an Ethernet cable connection for wireless configuration.
Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 under section 1. When the menu screen prompts you to select the connection method, select "Wireless" and press "X" on your controller to enter. On the following screen, select "Scan" to locate the wireless access point of your Internet connection. This will appear under "SSID."
Select "Scan" to locate the wireless access point of your Internet connection. This will appear under "SSID." Select your access point and press "X" to enter.
Confirm that you have selected the correct SSID. If correct, press the right direction button. If incorrect, press the left direction button. Next, select the security setting appropriate to your network and press "X".
Press the "X" button to enter the network security encryption key using the on-screen keyboard. Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 from section 1.
