How to Install a Lag Switch

A lag switch is designed to interrupt the connection between an Internet-capable video game console and the Internet. Lag switches are most commonly used during online video games to ̶0;freeze̶1; the onscreen action so that the person can gain an advantage over other players. Installing a lag switch only requires changing a few connections to the way that the video game console connects to computer modem to access the Internet, The distance that your Internet-capable video game console can be from your computer modem will be dictated by the length of the wiring of the lag switch.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn the switch on the lag switch to the ̶0;Off̶1; position. Remove the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the back of the Internet-capable video game console.

      Remove the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the computer modem.

      Insert the plug of one of the two Ethernet cables attached to the lag switch into the Ethernet port on the back of the Internet-capable video game console. Push in on the Ethernet cable until it clicks into position.

      Insert the plug of the other Ethernet cable attached to the lag switch into the Ethernet port on the computer modem. Push in on the Ethernet cable until it clicks into position.

      Reset the computer modem by turning it off and then on or by pulling out the power plug and then reinserting it, if there is no power button.

      Wait for all of the indicator lights to fully illuminate on the computer modem.

      Turn on the video game console. Insert a video game that has an online gaming option. Activate the gaming option from the video game̵7;s main menu to play the online version of the video game.
