Wired Connection
Connect an ethernet cable from your home Internet modem or router directly to the ethernet port on the back of your PlayStation 3.
Power on your PlayStation 3, and, using the controller, scroll to the "Settings" icon on the home menu. Scroll down to "Network Settings" and press the "X" button.
Highlight "Internet Connection" and make sure it's set to "Enabled". If not, press "X" and change it.
Scroll down to "Internet Connection Settings" and press "X". Highlight "Yes" and press "X" again to continue.
Choose "Easy" and press "X". The PS3 will check your connection and will display your settings. Press "X" to confirm and save the settings. Pressing "X" one more time will test the connection. Your PS3 is now ready to play online.
Wireless Connection
Make sure your PS3 is within range of your home's wireless Internet router.
Power on your PlayStation 3, and, using the controller, scroll to the "Settings" icon on the home menu. Scroll down to "Network Settings" and press the "X" button.
Highlight "Internet Connection" and make sure it's set to "Enabled". If not, press "X" and change it. Scroll down to "Internet Connection Settings" and press "X". Highlight "Yes" and press "X" again to continue. Choose "Wireless" from the list, and press the "X" button to move forward.
Find your wireless access point by selecting "Scan". Your PS3 will provide you with a list of available networks. Choose yours from the list and press "X". Press "right" on the directional pad to confirm this is your network.
Select the current security setup on your wireless connection. If there isn't one, select "None". Press the "X" button and enter your network password. Then press "right" on the directional pad. Finally, press "X" to confirm and save the settings. Pressing "X" one more time will test the connection. Your PS3 is now ready to play online.
