How to Play a PS3 Online With Headsets

The Playstation 3 console connects players to the game in ways few other consoles have in the past. One of the biggest features is the PlaystationNetwork. This system not only connects you to all of the content in the Playstation Store, but also allows you to play your favorite games with your friends. Connecting to the fun with a headset makes the game even better: you can chat and communicate with your teammates and fellow players.

Instructions

  Power on the Playstation 3 console and connect the controller by pressing the "PS" button.

  Navigate through the Home screen to the "Settings" option and scroll down to "Accessory settings."

  Select "Manage Bluetooth devices" and select "Yes" to pair the headset to the PS3.

  Press and hold the "Power" button on your Bluetooth headset for about three seconds. The LEDs will flash indicating that the headset is in Discovery mode. Note that these directions work on most, but not necessarily all Bluetooth headset devices. Consult the directions for your headset if you have any questions or cannot get it into discovery mode with this button.

  Select "Start Scanning" on the PS3 to begin searching for the Bluetooth headset. The Playstation will search for all of the available Bluetooth devices, including your headset.

  Select your headset from the list.

  Input "0000" from when prompted for a Passcode.

  Return to the "Accessory Settings" menu.

  Select "Audio Device settings" and then "Input device." Press "X" to select the Bluetooth headset from the list as the Input device.

  Return to the "Audio device settings" menu. If you want to have other players' speech broadcast in the headset, select "Output device" and choose your headset from the list. Otherwise, skip this step.

  Test the microphone by speaking into it. If your voice is too soft, select "Microphone level" and adjust your settings accordingly.

  Insert or begin your game, and connect to the PlaystationNetwork. You can change Chat options by selecting the "Chat settings" option under the Settings menu.
