Things You'll Need
Instructions
Use the black USB cord that came with the PlayStation 3 to connect your controller to the console. Plug the rectangular USB end into the port on the front of your console and the smaller end into the port on the top of your controller.
Power on your PlayStation 3 console by pressing the "Home" button on your controller (situated between the "Select" and "Start" buttons) to sync the controller to the console. Note that the lights on the top left of your controller will flash red as it's syncing; when the sync is complete, one light will glow steadily (the "1" light if you're playing alone.)
Disconnect the USB cable if you wish to use the synced controller wirelessly. You can also play with it plugged in, however, and it will charge while you're playing.
