How to Connect the PS3 to the Internet Without a Router

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game system features online capabilities for playing games, downloading updates and game enhancements and interacting with other players. If you don't have a router to connect to your PS3, you can get it online by connecting it directly to your high-speed Internet modem.

      Turn off the PS3 and unplug it from the wall power outlet. Unplug your DSL or cable modem as well and ensure that it is unplugged from the wall power outlet.

      Connect an Ethernet cable from the back of the PS3 to the back of the high-speed Internet modem. Plug the PS3 back in.

      Plug in your modem and wait for two to five minutes for it to acquire an IP address. Then turn your PS3 on. Your PS3 is now connected to the Internet without a router.
