How Can I Play PS1 Games on My PS3?

The Sony PlayStation 3 was released in 2006 and can accomodate PS3, PS2 and PS1 games. This is called backwards compatibility, and has since been removed from the newer versions of the PlayStation 3, including the PS3 Slim. For those who have a first-generation PlayStation 3 console, you have the ability to play almost any PlayStation game.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3 and wait as it boots into the Sony PS3 menu. This is called the PS3 XMB menu and is where you can access all of the PS3̵7;s features, including playing your PS1 games.

    • 2

Push the eject touch sensor on the front of the console and insert the PS1 game disk into the tray.

    • 3

Navigate to the ̶0;Game̶1; section of the PS3 XMB and you will see a black colored disk icon. This is your PS1 game. It will read ̶0;PlayStation Game Disc.̶1; Select it by pressing the ̶0;X̶1; button on your PS3 controller.
