How to Convert MP4 to PS3

Convert MP4 movie files for use in the PlayStation 3 console by using conversion software designed to compress and encode the file for PS3 compatibility. Although PS3 consoles ordinarily support MP4 files, some users experience difficulty playing them and need to convert their files to a more widely recognized format, such as AVI, or Audio Video Interleaved. AVI files are significantly larger than MP4 files, but they are typically compatible with all PS3 consoles. Note that Microsoft Windows programs do not work with MP4 files, so you must use a third party conversion software to convert MP4 files.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the conversion software, such as the one found in the "Resources" section, and drag and drop the MP4 file into the conversion window.

    • 2

Select the format you'd like to convert to (such as AVI) and make any other desired changes to the settings, such as widescreen or full screen format or different aspect ratios. Be aware that converting the video can sometimes distort the picture, so if your first selection does not correctly render the picture quality you chose, alter your selections for a wider or smaller size.

    • 3

Press the "Convert" or "Start conversion" command. This process might take up to two hours, depending on the size and length of the file. Do not run too many other applications on the computer, as this can disrupt the conversion cycle. When the process completes, you can transfer the file to the PS3 console for viewing.
