Synchronization
Both the DualShock 3 and SIXAXIS controllers must be synchronized with your PlayStation 3 console before they work with it. Connect the controller using the USB cable included with your PS3 console. Then press the center button on the controller (marked with the PlayStation logo). The controller is now synchronized. Remember that the PlayStation button also powers on the controller.
Vibration
If you notice a lack of vibration while playing games, remember that the SIXAXIS controller and many early PS3 titles lack the vibration feature. The DualShock 3 controller has vibration, but only with compatible games. Check the game's packaging to find out whether it's compatible with this feature. Vibration must be enabled in-game in order to work (the instructions for enabling that feature vary from title to title).
Triggers
Unlike the DualShock 2 controller used for the PS2, the R2 and L2 buttons on the DualShock 3 and SIXAXIS are difficult to manage. If the triggers feel funny or slip from your fingers, try a third-party peripheral like the PS3 "Real Trigger Kit." These clip right onto your controller, making it slightly easier to use.
Resetting
Resetting the controller is always an option if you notice performance issues, despite proper synchronization with the console and a charged battery. Flip the controller so the buttons are facing your lap. Using a paper clip, press the button on the back of the controller, holding it in for several seconds. Re-sync the controller before using it again.
Recharging
Connect your DualShock 3 or SIXAXIS controller to your PlayStation 3 using the included USB cable in order to recharge the battery. Check the charge level on the PS3 home menu or by pressing the PlayStation button on the controller.
