How to Change a CD to an MP3 on the PS3

In addition to having Blu-ray playback capabilities and an integrated Web browser, the Sony PlayStation 3 is also capable of playing music. Inserting an audio CD into your PlayStation 3 allows you to listen to it, as well as rip it directly to the console's hard drive. Ripping an audio disc to your PS3 in the MP3 audio format is a relatively easy process. Overall, it won't take you more than a few seconds to set up, and a few minutes to convert the album.

  Power on your PlayStation 3 and insert any audio CD into the disc drive.

  Go to the Settings icon on the PS3 XMB (cross media bar).

  Scroll down to "Music Settings" and press "X." Select "Audio CD Import" and select the MP3 codec. Then press "Right" and select your bit rate. (A higher number means higher quality.) Press "X" to save your settings.

  Press the "Circle" button to return to the XMB and press "Right" to go to the "Music" icon.

  Scroll down to the Audio CD icon and press "Triangle."

  Select "Import" and press "X." The album will import directly to your PS3's hard drive.
