How to Install the Saves from PS1 onto a PS3 Using a Memory Stick

The early versions of the PlayStation 3 console came with backward compatibility, the ability to play PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 games. Since the PS3 does not come with the memory card stick slots that the PS2 and PS1 used, you will need to get the Memory Card Adapter to transfer your saved data from your PS1 memory stick onto your PS3.

Things You'll Need

  • PS3 memory card adapter
  • PS3 USB cable

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the memory card adapter into your PS3 via the USB cable and insert your PS1 memory card into the memory card adapter memory stick slot.

    • 2

Power on your PS3 and go to the "Game" tab in the XrossMediaBar.

    • 3

Select the "Memory Card Utility." The memory stick inserted will be listed as "Memory Card (PS)" because it is a PS1 memory stick.

    • 4

Highlight the memory card and press "Triangle" on the controller. Select "Copy" and confirm to copy the memory card onto your PS3.

    • 5

Follow the on-screen prompts to create a new internal memory card on your PS3 to store the PS1 data.

    • 6

Assign the PS internal memory card to Slot 1 in order to use it in games.
