How to Shut Down a PlayStation 3 (Two Ways)

First Method

  Click on the round PlayStation 3 button in the middle of your Sony wireless controller. This button is identified by a large "P." Your PS3 system will ask you if you would like to quit the game. Click the "X" button on your Sony wireless controller and your game will quit. Wait a few seconds for the PS3 to go to the Main menu.

  When you are at the Main menu, click on the triangle button on your controller, and a list of choices will come up on your screen. Use the down arrow button to scroll to where it says "Eject" the game. When you reach this point, click on the "X" button on your Sony wireless controller. Your game disc will eject from your PS3 system. Now you are ready to shut off your PS3 system.

  On the front right of your PS3 system, you will see a green light. This tells you your PS3 system is on. Place your finger on top of your PS3 system right next to where it says Sony. You will notice this because it has a small straight line, a crooked line, and a circle with a line through the top of it. Hold your finger down in this area for a few seconds. You will hear your PS3 system make a noise and the light will begin to blink. It will blink seven to 10 times, and your PS3 system will shut off. Now your PS3 system has been turned off correctly. Pull the plug out of the wall until you are ready to turn your PS3 back on and play again.

Second Method

  Your game is shut off and the PS3 goes back to the Main menu.

  Click the left button on your controller to go all the way over to the left on your screen to "Users."

  Scroll up and click on "Turn Off System," and your PS3 will shut off.
