How to Configure PS3 With Netgear 834

One of the features that sets the PlayStation 3 apart from other consoles is its internal wireless transceiver. While Xbox 360 users have to pay $50 for a peripheral, PlayStation 3 users can connect directly to a router, such as the Netgear 834, without any additional hardware. Configuring your PlayStation 3 with this router is very simple, and only requires a few short steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your Netgear 834 router using a wired Ethernet Internet connection. Once the Ethernet cable has been connected, launch an Internet browser on your computer and go to the router settings address. (http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm)

    • 2

Enter the default login information ("admin" for username and "password" for password) and take a look at the security settings area. Make sure you are broadcasting an unsecured, SSID, or WEP/WPA secured connection, by checking one of these wireless connection types from the menu. By default, your router should be set to "Unsecured."

    • 3

Power on your PlayStation and then go to the "Settings" menu and then scroll down until you see "Network Settings." Then press the "X" button.

    • 4

Select the "Easy" setup and then press the "X" button. When prompted, select "Wireless" as the connection type, and then press the "X" button again to confirm.

    • 5

Select the wireless network from the available connections. If the wireless connection is secure, you will be prompted to input a password. Do so, then press the "X" button one more time to connect.
