How to Know If a PS3 Plays SACD

Super Audio CD (SACD for short) is a high-quality audio disc format created by Sony and Philips Electronics and introduced to the consumer market in 1999. SACDs provide sound quality superior to that of regular CDs. The format is also capable of containing surround sound data. Some, but not all, PlayStation3 consoles are capable of playing SACDs. Visually inspecting your PS3 will help you determine whether it is one of the few that is SACD compatible.

Examine what is now the top side of your PS3. You will see a row of small blue logos printed across the top of the console between the two air vents. These logos represent the various features of your particular PS3, including the audio and video formats it supports.

Look for the "SUPER AUDIO CD" logo. It should be between the "DVD VIDEO/ROM" logo and the "COMPACT disc" logo. If your PS3 has this logo, it plays SACDs. If your PS3 is missing this logo, it does not play SACDs.
