"Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots" is an action game that focuses on stealth rather than direct combat. The game once again features Solid Snake as the main protagonist, but he looks much older due to rapid cellular degeneration. The game has a number of cheats and secrets included in the game. Many of these are through passwords that can be entered at various points in the game.

Otacon Passwords
- At one point in "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots," Otacon instructs Solid Snake to enter a password. There are three additional secret passwords that you can enter. All three will cause an "Access Denied" message to appear, but will grant the bonus. Entering "78925" and "13462" will unlock two additional iPod songs. Entering "14893" will grant 100,000 Drebin Points (DP). This password is a good cheat to use so you can buy more items from Drebin.
Inheritance Bonus
- "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots" has a secret inheritance feature that functions like the "New Game +" feature found in some games. This allows players to get all the DP, weapons, ammo, items and special items left after beating the game at the beginning of the new game. Make sure you save the game after beating the final boss to use this secret feature. You will be able to load this save when you encounter the Metal Gear II early on in a new game. This can make beating the game on higher difficulty levels significantly easier.
Drebin Store Prices
- Drebin is the only source for items beyond what can be found in missions in "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots." These items are purchased with DP earned during the game. There are two instances that cause the prices for items to be cheaper. Entering Act 5 of the game will automatically half the price of items. A small secret is that Drebin will lower his prices when it is actually a Sunday or Wednesday in real life. This system easily allows player to cheat. Just change the PlayStation 3 system date to a Sunday or Wednesday before starting the game and you will always have this discount.
