Checking Your PS3
Check the back of the PlayStation 3 box under the features.
Read the Compatible Software/Media statement to determine whether your PS3 system is compatible with PlayStation games.
Check the back of your PS3 for the serial number if you no longer have the box. If your serial number is CECHB01, CECHA01 or CECHE01, your system has backwards compatibility for PS1 and PS2 games.
Game Compatibility
Check to see whether specific PlayStation titles are compatible with your PS3. Visit the PlayStation website--there is a link in the Resources section--to check this information against your model.
Select the platform you own.
Type the title into the Game Title box and select "Enter."
Use the "Additional Search Filters" option to narrow your search to PlayStation titles only.
Scroll down the page to view your results. If the description reads "No major problems for this title," you can play that game on your PS3.
