Put a towel on a table. Disconnect all cables from the PS3 and put it on the towel. Use the flat-head jeweler's screwdriver to dislodge the hard drive compartment lid off of the PS3. Remove the screw inside of the compartment with the Torx screwdriver. Pull the metal hatch out. Remove the hard drive.
Put the PS3 face down on the towel. Use the utility knife to cut off the rubber feet. Remove the exposed screws using the Phillips-head jeweler's screwdriver. Turn the PS3 back face up on the towel.
Slide the top case off to the right. Remove the screws from the back using the Torx screwdriver. Pull the top case up and off the bottom case of the PS3.
Use the Phillips-head jeweler's screwdriver to remove the screws from around the Blu-ray player. Lift up on the Blu-ray player. Pull the power cable from out of the back of the case of the Blu-ray player. Put the Blu-ray player down.
Wipe off the power cable with the rough cloth. Moisten a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Rub the cotton swab against the power cable. Rub the cotton swab inside the power connector on the back of the case of the Blu-ray player. Let the alcohol evaporate.
Blow out the power connector on the back of the Blu-ray player with compressed air. Firmly push the power cable into the power connector on the back of the case of the Blu-ray player.
Reattach the Blu-ray player to the bottom case of the PS3. Reattach the power cable. Plug the power cord into a wall socket for power. Press the pressure-sensitive switch on the front of the PS3 to turn it on. Wait to see that the Blu-ray disc drive starts to spin and that the LEDs on it illuminate.
Press the pressure-sensitive switch on the front of the PS3 to turn it off. Disconnect the power cord from the PS3. Reassemble the PS3. Reattach the power cord and all of the other cables that were removed earlier.
