How Do I Give My PlayStation 3 a Static IP Address?

The Sony PlayStation 3 comes with built-in Internet connectivity support. The PlayStation 3 system uses the Internet connection when you download new system updates, game add-ons or media such as wallpapers or movies. The PlayStation 3 also uses Internet connectivity every time you play a game with features such as online multiplayer, leader boards or trophies. If you intend to set your PlayStation 3 up behind a router, it may require that you configure a static IP address so the router properly forwards Internet traffic. A static IP address is easy to configure in PlayStation 3 menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to "Settings" on the PlayStation 3 XMB home menu. Scroll down to "Internet Connection Settings" and click the "X" button on the wireless PlayStation 3 controller.

    • 2

Select "Yes" on the confirmation screen. Highlight the "Custom" option and press the "X" button to continue.

    • 3

Select "Wired" or "Wireless" as your connection type and continue. Proceed through the configuration screens with the directional buttons on the PlayStation 3 controller.

    • 4

Choose "Manual" and press the right directional button when you reach the IP configuration screen. Enter your static IP into the blanks provided with the on-screen keyboard.

    • 5

Review your settings before you continue. Press the "X" button on the PlayStation 3 controller to save your Internet connection settings. Press the "X" button again to test the Internet configuration.
