Instructions
Boot up the PS3.
Log in to the PlayStation Network from the home screen.
Use the left analog stick or the D-pad to move to the ̶0;Friends̶1; icon. The analog sticks are the joystick-like parts on the PS3 controller. The D-pad is the traditional up-down-left-right pad on the PS3 controller.
Move down the list to the ̶0;Start New Chat̶1; icon, and select it by pressing ̶0;X." Anytime you select something to move on to the next step you must use the ̶0;X̶1; button.
Select ̶0;Text Chat.̶1;
Name the chat room. This is optional. You can keep the default name of the chat room if you want.
Select friends to invite to the chat room and hit ̶0;OK.̶1;
Choose to ̶0;Invite a Friend̶1; if you forgot anyone. You can also view the chat participants by selecting ̶0;Participant List.̶1;
Press ̶0;X̶1; while the text box is highlighted to open the on-screen keyboard.
Select each letter individually to create words.
Press the square button to backspace and the triangle button to create a space.
Use the second-left-backpad button ̶0;L2̶1; to view and select accented letters. Use ̶0;R2̶1; to view numbers, some symbols and toggle between upper and lower-case letters.
Select the icon with ̶0;@#:̶1; on it. This is the full symbol list and includes emoticons (also known as smileys).
Use the ̶0;Prediction Box̶1; on the right of the keyboard to view and select from a list of words that appear and narrow down as you type each word. The ̶0;Prediction Box̶1; attempts to predict the word you are trying to type, so you do not have to type each letter out.
Press ̶0;Start̶1; on the controller when you are finished typing your message, and press ̶0;Start̶1; again to send the message.
