How to Play MPEG Videos on a Sony Playstation 3

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a video game console released for home use in 2006. Though the primary function of the PlayStation 3 is playing video games, the console offers users several additional functions, such as playing music files and Blu-Ray discs. One of the functions available is playing back video, such as MPEG files. By accessing MPEG files on your PlayStation 3, you can view them on your television.

      Copy the MPEG file from a computer, digital video camera or other source onto the USB device. Consult the instruction manual provided with the USB device for information on copying files to it.

      Plug the USB device into the USB data jack on the bottom left side of the PlayStation 3. After several seconds the PlayStation 3 will recognize the USB device. Refer to the documentation supplied with the USB device for additional connection information.

      Select "USB Device" from the main menu of the PlayStation 3 with the "X" button on the controller to bring up a list of the files saved to the device.

      Highlight the MPEG file you want to play using the navigation arrows and press the "X" button to start playing the video.
