How to Connect a PS3 to a Wireless Laptop

If you don̵7;t have a cable to connect your Sony PlayStation 3 to your laptop or else just want to be able to connect it without the hassle of cables running through your house, use a wireless network to connect the two devices. A wireless network connection will allow you to watch videos, listen to music or show images on your TV using your PS3 as a streaming device. Setup is easy if you have a wireless router.

      Connect the laptop to your preferred wireless network.

      Open the Windows Media Player on your Laptop. Select the ̶0;Library̶1; tab on the menu and be sure the box next to ̶0;Share My Media̶1; is checked. If you don̵7;t see this option, download the latest version of Media Player.

      Turn on the PS3 and go to the XMB (Cross Media Bar), otherwise known as the Menu screen. Select ̶0;Settings," then "Network Settings," then "Internet Connection.̶1; Be sure this is enabled

      Navigate to "Internet Connection Settings" and select ̶0;Yes̶1; if asked to disconnect.

      Select ̶0;Easy,̶1; then ̶0;Wireless Connection,̶1; and choose to "Scan Automatically." Select the wireless network to which your laptop is connected.

      Enter any special settings or security keys that are required by the network. This includes WEP, WPA and perhaps the MAC address. Press ̶0;X̶1; on the controller to save the settings and test the connection.

      Go to the "Music," "Photos" or "Video" tab of the PS3 menu and scroll down until you see the option "Scan for media server." Press ̶0;X̶1; on your controller to start the scan, and it will automatically search your laptop for media files and folders.
