How to Copy Files Over 4 Gigs on to a Flash Drive for PS3

One of the main problems PS3 owners have is that the PS3 does not handle files over 4GB because of the Sony file system. Nearly all of the time, these files are MKV files. MKV files are video files that cannot be played on the PS3, so only splitting them will not work. You need to transcode them into a new file format like VOB. MKV2VOB does this entire process very nicely.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install MKV2VOB. It is free software and automatically updates itself.

    • 2

Open MKV2VOB and click the ̶0;Browse̶1; button next to the ̶0;Source File̶1; space. A window will open, find your MKV file and select it. Click ̶0;Open,̶1; and the file will load into MKV2VOB. Underneath it, there is another space called ̶0;Destination Directory.̶1; Click the ̶0;Browse̶1; button and select where you want to save the new file(s).

Click the ̶0;Configuration̶1; tab at the top of the program, select ̶0;Always Transcode DTS̶1; and change ̶0;File-Splitting̶1; to ̶0;FAT32,̶1; which will split files that are over 4GB. Go back to the ̶0;Add File̶1; tab and click the ̶0;Add File̶1; button to start the conversion. Wait as your new file is created and split.

Insert your flash drive into your computer, and copy over the new files that MKV2VOB just created. Wait as they are transferred to the flash drive. Once the transfer is complete, turn on your PS3 and insert your flash drive into your PS3. Use the PS3 as you normally would.
