How to Stop DNS Error Messages on PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 allows gamers to connect to the PlayStation Network in order to download games, movies and other downloadable content as well as play games online. One of the most common problems, though, is the DNS. DNS stands for Domain Name System and denotes the PS3̵7;s failed attempt to connect to the Internet. There are several things you may need to do to solve this problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your modem̵7;s power supply and remove the battery. Do the same with your router if you have one. Wait a few seconds, then reinsert the batteries and plug them back in. Let the router and modem initialize and try your connection again.

    • 2

Update your router̵7;s firmware. Old firmware may not be compatible with the PS3, so ensure the most up-to-date software is installed. Go to the support section of your router̵7;s manufacturer̵7;s website. Search for your router̵7;s model number and download the most recent firmware update. Every manufacturer is different, but each will give you instructions on how to install. You may need to repeat Step 1.

Check that you are using the correct SSID and WEP key for your wireless network. The SSID is your wireless network's name and the WEP key is the password. You need to make sure you are entering them correctly in the ̶0;PlayStation Network Settings̶1; option in the under the Network Settings menu in the ̶0;Settings̶1; tab on the Cross Media Bar.

Try a wired connection. Plug an Ethernet cable directly from you router or modem into you PS3 and set up a wired connection in the Network Settings menu. DNS errors are less common with wired connections, and this will ensure that the problem is with the wireless connection, not the router itself.
