How to Put Internet PS3 Game Patches onto the System

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a system that is constantly updating. Periodic firmware updates are released that fix bugs and add new features. Similarly, game patches are released to fix bugs in games and add new features such as trophy support or DualShock 3 rumble support. Generally, these updates occur automatically when the PS3 is turned on or when a game is booted up.

Instructions

Ensure that your PS3 is connected to the internet. In the Cross Media Bar, go to ̶0;Settings̶1; and select ̶0;Network Settings̶1;. Make sure Internet Connection is enabled and select ̶0;Internet Connection Settings̶1;. You can connect to the Internet either from a wired Ethernet connection or a wireless connection.

    • 2

Insert the game you wish to patch into the PS3's disc drive.

    • 3

Boot up the game under ̶0;Games̶1; from the Cross Media Bar. In most cases, the game will be patched automatically. In some instances, such as with older games, you must connect the game to the PlayStation Network. To do so, go to the Games Multiplayer menu and start an online game. When the game connects to the network, you will be prompted to update.

Accept the prompt to update and the game patch will automatically be downloaded and installed and your PS3 will be restarted.
