Individual Game Data
Turn on your PlayStation 3 and load up the XMB.
Insert an external memory source into one of the slots on your PlayStation 3 console. This can be a Memory Stick, SD memory card, CompactFlash, USB thumb drive, or an external USB hard drive.
Locate the saved game data you wish to copy using the XMB̵7;s ̶0;Saved Data Utility̶1;. Highlight the entry and press the ̶0;Triangle̶1; button to access ̶0;Options.̶1; Choose ̶0;Copy̶1; and press ̶0;X.̶1;
Select your external memory source and press ̶0;X̶1; to copy data from your PlayStation 3 to your external memory source. Note that some saved game data is copy-protected by the game developer and cannot be backed up on a game-by-game basis. A full system backup of your PS3 is required to back up saved game data that is copy-protected in this manner.
Full System Backup
Turn on your PS3 and access the ̶0;Backup Utility.̶1; This can be found under the ̶0;Settings̶1; tab of your XMB and then by clicking on ̶0;System Settings.̶1;
Choose ̶0;Back Up̶1; and press ̶0;X̶1; when asked if you want to ̶0;Back Up,̶1; ̶0;Restore,̶1; or ̶0;Delete Backup Data.̶1;
Select ̶0;Yes̶1; and click ̶0;X̶1; after reading the message displayed on your screen. It states that the backup may only be used to restore game data onto the original PlayStation 3 from which the backup is being made.
Choose the appropriate external memory source. As with individual game saves, you can make a full backup of your PlayStation 3̵7;s data using a Memory Stick, SD memory card, CompactFlash, USB thumb drive, or an external USB hard drive.
Trophy Data
Access your trophies by going to ̶0;Trophy Collection̶1; under the ̶0;Game̶1; tab of your PlayStation 3̵7;s XMB.
Press the ̶0;Triangle̶1; button to access your ̶0;Options.̶1;
Select ̶0;Sync with Server̶1; and press ̶0;X̶1; to backup your trophy data. Because this saves your information directly to Sony̵7;s servers, you do need a valid PlayStation Network account to perform this operation successfully.
